Cicada Woods is Canada’s newest all-women tango-fusion string quartet. Pushing the sonic limits of violin, viola, cello, and double bass, the ensemble uses percussive effects, scratches, siren wails, and driving rhythms to create an electrifying sound that bridges Argentine tango, classical tradition, and fearless contemporary experimentation.

Wielding a sound that would turn classical music scholars to stone, these four folk innovators are reimagining the Western string quartet. By inviting back voices previously regarded as too ugly for “polite society,” Medusa tempts us to redefine what is beautiful.
